Privacy Policy
In short: Photo Dedupe does not collect, store on any server, sell or share your data. All processing happens on your own computer, inside your Google Photos browser tab. It never deletes anything on its own.
What the extension accesses
To find duplicates, Photo Dedupe reads information that Google Photos already shows you in your browser tab:
- Photo thumbnails, which are used to create a small visual fingerprint of each photo.
- Photo identifiers and labels from the page, such as the date taken and whether an item is a video or a favourite.
- File sizes, read with a size-only request to Google Photos, to show how much space you could free.
All of this is processed in your browser's memory and discarded when you close or reload the tab. The extension only accesses your photos when you open its panel and start a scan.
What the extension does not do
- It does not send your photos, fingerprints, file names, dates or any other information to the developer or to any third party.
- It has no servers, accounts, sign-in, analytics, advertising or tracking.
- It does not sell, rent or transfer any data, and does not use data for anything other than finding duplicates for you.
- It does not load or run code from outside the extension.
- It never deletes photos. It only ticks selection checkboxes in Google Photos. Removing photos is always your own action.
Network requests
The extension's only network requests go to Google's own photo servers, using your existing Google Photos session, to load thumbnails, file sizes and video previews. These are the same kinds of requests Google Photos makes when you browse your library. No request is made to any other service.
What is stored on your device
| Item | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Panel size, thumbnail size and theme | Your browser's extension storage | So the panel looks the way you left it |
| Scan results | Memory of the open tab only | Shown while you review; gone when the tab closes |
You can clear stored settings at any time by removing the extension.
Diagnostic report
If something isn't working, you can choose to copy a diagnostic report to your clipboard. It describes only the structure of the Google Photos page: element types, counts and image server names. It contains no photos, names, places, dates or links. It's never sent automatically. It goes wherever you paste it.
Permissions
- Access to photos.google.com: needed to read the photo grid, show the panel and tick the checkboxes of photos you mark.
- Storage: needed to remember your panel size and theme.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy

Photo Dedupe is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the extension's store listing.
